Executive Profile Debbie Purstell, Director of Bridal for N. Fox Jewelers
A prominent Saratoga Springs retailer since 1947, N. Fox Jewelers has evolved into the full-service destination jewelry and watch boutique you see today. Owners Harvey & Cassie Fox credit their exceptional staff for much of their store’s success. Director of Bridal, Debbie Purstell recently celebrated 25 years.
- When did you join N Fox Jewelers? I joined N. Fox Jewelers in 1996. My children were small and I had been working out of my home on some freelance jewelry design projects. A friend of mine worked at N. Fox and wanted the day after Christmas off. This was a big day in retail and I covered for her at the bench sizing rings. I’ve been with N. Fox ever since.
- What drew you to the industry? The creative aspect. I worked in jewelry retail sales in college. I remember watching the jewelry designers and being captivated by the process and awestruck by the beauty of their finished work. With the help of these designers I had so admired, I entered into a jewelry apprenticeship program.
- What event or decision impacted your career the most and why? The decision to transition to the business side of the industry impacted my career the most. I was surprised by how much I love the challenges of helping to run the business. There are so many facets and I find each one fascinating.
- Tell us a little about your career path. I have worked in the jewelry industry my entire life. I’ve had my hands in almost every aspect of the business. I understand what it’s like to be a bench jeweler, a jewelry designer, a sales associate, a manager, a trainer, a jewelry buyer, a diamond buyer, etc.
- How did you get to where you are today? Education and hard work. I credit my knowledge of business to my boss and mentor, Harvey Fox. Through him, I have come to realize that making a piece of jewelry is one thing. Running a successful business is another!
- What is the most important leadership lesson you have learned? A person who feels appreciated will always do more than what is expected.
- What has helped you get to where you are and what advice do you have for others who want to set off in a similar direction? Always do your best and try to stay one step ahead. Surround yourself with team players and people you can learn from.
- What advice would you give to young women as they launch their careers? Choose a field you are passionate about. Be eager to learn.
- Why should other women consider a career in your industry? You will make life-long connections and be a part of the most special moments in a person’s life.

As an Official Rolex Retailer, N. Fox features a new Rolex counter and plans to renovate much of the sales floor this year. Upcoming renovations to N. Fox promise expanded jewelry and timepiece inventory, a new diamond, bridal, and engagement ring buying suite, and enhancements to the overall shopping experience.
With an already expansive selection of bridal, diamond, designer, and fashion jewelry for all occasions, N. Fox’s popularity continues to grow and draw customers from near and far away.
